Graduated from Headlines Academy of Massage in Sept. 2001. For the past 9 years she has been working in physical therapy doing treatment work and sports massage (3 years). In July, 2006 she started her own Massage Business and has been having a blast ever since. She is a lifetime learner that has been studying various massage techniques like Reiki, MLD, Acupressure, treatment work and MFR. She has her BA degree in Psychology with an Art minor from Chadron State College and started graduate school at SDSU in January of 2010 to eventually be a counselor (LPC-MH).
Deep Tissue-this workshop will focus on Deep tissue treatments for our clients. Students will learn proper body mechanics and the dos & don’ts of Deep tissue. Deep Tissue massage isn’t for every client or every therapist and this workshop will demonstrate how to do it correctly.
Deep Relaxation-many of my clients just want to relax-especially those who have highly stressful careers. This workshop will show how to focus on what your clients mean when they say,”I just want to relax.”
MLD- This workshop will explain Manual Lymphatic Drainage, its uses and contraindications. It is an ideal technique for our ‘cleanse and detox’ clientele. MLD is a light weight massage that causes the Lymphatic system to drain itself. Ideal for some bedridden clients as well.
Hot Stone Class-Learn the art of Hot stone massage with hot and cold stones. This class will cover everything that you need to know to add this service to your menu. It helps the client and the therapist.
Massage for Hospice Care and the Terminally Ill-This workshop will cover massage techniques for working with the terminally ill and dying. We will cover self-care for the caregivers as well as the stages of dying to deepen the students' understanding of the dying process.
Essential Oils and Massage-This workshop will cover the basics of using essential oils with massage. This is a hands on workshop where we will explore the therapeutic value of essential oils while applying them to our clients.
Ona Hancock LMT
Educator, Ona Hancock LMT, has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1982 and has experience in all phases of the field. She has been providing reflexology to her clients since 1990. Her massage therapy training was received from the Alexandria School of Scientific Therapeutics in Indiana during the year of 1992. This excellent school provided instruction in many facets of the healing arts including, but not limited to: Swedish massage, balance technique, structural alignment techniques, position release techniques, cranio-sacral work as well as various forms of energy balancing methods. She currently operates a dual licensed studio in downtown Rapid City. Ona’s qualifications allow her to instruct continuing education courses not only to those in the field of massage therapy but in the realm of cosmetology as well.

Hello, my name is Melanie J. Teems, and I am a Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist. In 2007, I earned my Massage Therapist certification from Headlines Academy of Massage in Rapid City, SD. With over 23 years as a health care professional, the human body and its mechanics, performance and recovery seemed a natural progression into my massage career. An avid horsewoman and a strong believer in a healthy lifestyle which includes plenty of activity, I was eager to assist athletes prepare and recover from the exertion of sports and workouts. Since, I have treated rodeo participants such as bull riders, ropers and barrel racers as well as long-distance runners, cyclists, gymnasts, climbers, motorcyclists and so many weekend warriors recover and better understand the muscles needed to continue enjoying the sport they love.
In 2009, I completed the Teaching Massage: Fundamental Principles in Adult Education for Massage Program Instructors course through ABMP (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals) in order to bring this material to you in a concise and organized manner while respecting each individual's unique style of learning.

Sports Massage-Welcome to Sports Massage! In this 8 credit workshop, you will learn how to set up at a sporting event as well as how to treat the most common sports injuries that will allow you to participate in a variety of events. With each injury addressed, you will learn in which sporting event the injury is most likely to occur and also learn basic pre-event and post event massage techniques to prepare and cool down athletes prior to and following a competition and workout. These techniques are taught in massage school, so you will already be familiar with them. It's about when and how to use these techniques that makes this method of massage helpful to athletes. The workshop is designed as an introduction to Sports Massage but with this knowledge and a little bit of practice, you can successfully use these techniques and begin a Sports Massage career.
